If you're not sure which of these your question belongs to, that's normal and it isn't a failure of yours — the systems genuinely overlap. Nervous system sits underneath most of the others. Inflammation runs through several that look unconnected. Where a dependency exists, we've named it, so you can find the layer underneath the one you came for.

Nervous System & Stress Physiology

The layer that quietly determines whether anything else works. A body held in a sustained stress state responds differently to every input you give it — which is usually the answer to why something that should have helped didn't. Sympathetic and parasympathetic states, chronic load, downstream effects, and what regulation actually involves.

A note on organisation

Why these are systems rather than symptoms.

Organising by symptom would be easier to search and worse to learn from. It's worth explaining the reasoning rather than just asserting the choice.

Symptoms cut across systems. Fatigue can originate in nervous-system load, sleep architecture, thyroid function, iron status, mitochondrial capacity, inflammatory burden, or several at once. Someone who has read about fatigue knows none of those well enough to tell which one they're looking at — and telling which one you're looking at was the entire question.

Organising by system is slower at the start and much better afterwards. Understand mitochondrial function and you can reason about fatigue, endurance, recovery, and ageing, because underneath they're the same biology wearing four names. The trade is real, and we'd make it again.

The one place we don't apply this is women's biology, which appears throughout rather than as a twelfth category. Hormonal context isn't a topic sitting alongside metabolism and recovery — it changes how those systems behave, so it belongs inside each of them.
